Umbilical Cord Connection to Christ

From the Pastor’s heart

Umbilical cord connection to Christ

Col 3:3  For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

When a baby is born, it is exposed to a world it is not prepared for. So, why have a birth when the chances of making it in this world are slim? This is a good question but not an easy one to answer. Yet, new birth is as sure as death is. Whatever form that new birth takes in the shape and form of the child (some are born without fullness of body, soul or spirit) it still constitutes to a life form that is brought into this world that is considered as human. The addition to humanity of more humans is inevitable as long as humans live on this earth. The cycle of life and death is being constantly fed by man’s desire to reproduce of himself. The moment the umbilical cord is cut, the new child is released into a world that will absorb it and cause it to become what it becomes by the forces that attach itself to the child. As long as the child is connected to its mother’s womb, it stays in a cocoon of protection, yet for a period of time only. It is inevitable that the child has to be released from the mother by the severing of the umbilical cord.

Yet, the child is yearns for a connection that causes it to cry out and is only pacified when once again it is re-joined with its mother. This cycle too is a connection but not an umbilical cord connection. This new connection of child to parents and the world always seeks security to relate its existence because it once knew safety in the womb. It is this need of the new born that shapes its journey as life unfolds and the child matures. You will find that security in life is probably the number one pursuit of man. We seek it in every area of our lives, be it in marriage, having children, financial security, job security, relationships peace on earth etc. We even seek to walk on firm ground. Unstable ground makes us uneasy and unsure. All this has to do with being connected to something that began in the womb.

This uncertain world holds many surprises, trials and tribulations that come to threaten that security we seek. Even though we may have houses, it is threatened by mortgage, marriages by divorce, life by natural disasters, and our jobs are threatened by loss of job, our relationships are easily threatened by offense. The list is endless. It seems that security while hard fought and worked for is only fragile to say the least. In the back of our minds, we are always sure that we need to protect this once instilled security we felt as babies in the womb. The only difference is, it has taken on worldly connotations and faces worldly and evil pressures that are constantly seeking to destroy this fragile framework of security we work so hard to build into our lives. One of the greatest insecurities I have noticed we experience in life is betrayal, through divorce and family breakdown in relationships and health that also cause children to be cast out or marginalised in some way. The trauma and stress that come from these security breakdowns have far reaching consequences that shape our future and the way we think. It seems to be an impossible expectation to find that security again that we once enjoyed in the womb.

There is good news. Jesus came to this world in the same way as us born of a virgin in a supernatural way to show the world that re-birth in Him is possible to produce security for this life and the one to come. The cocoon of His love covers us as it gives birth to the new us and shapes us to become what He has purposed in this new birth. The new birth does not have an umbilical cord disconnection. On the contrary, it has a security connection that cannot be broken that is unbroken by the blood of Jesus. The blood that flows now in the umbilical cord (that’s what the umbilical cord function is in the natural) connection between God and us brings this new life and security forever. So, we are hid in Christ or in the womb of Christ till the new birth produces a more lasting manifestation in heaven. Col 3:4When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

To all who believe, Christ is now our security and future. We are connected for eternity through His Spirit which He has given us. This connection of spirit of man with the Spirit of God is the new umbilical cord connection. Heaven and earth can pass away but this word of connection will never pass away; if we believe and continue to believe. The storms of life will come to sever this connection because it knows you have found this new security that it cannot touch yet seeks to break us with uncertainty and fear because we can be touched as long as we are still in the flesh. However, if we walk in the Spirit nothing can by any means harm us. Physically we may go through trials and tribulations but we know that our lives are hid in Christ and that it cannot be shaken because we are connected by this cord of love through the Holy Spirit. It tells us that no matter what happens in life, God has got our back.

It is in this realisation that the greatest blessings of God are released to us while we are upon this earth. The more we inculcate (impress upon ourselves) this truth, the more we will see the manifestation of God’s blessings in our lives. Then, we are no longer the tail but the head and more than conquerors through Christ Jesus. Suddenly, the circumstances of a natural life are subject to us because this new birth draws from heaven supernatural power and wisdom to defeat all that the world and the devil can throw at us. We are no longer insecure. 2Ti 1:7For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

When ill health or job loss or relationship breakdown comes our way we are not easily disturbed. When death comes knocking on our door, it does not perturb us. We live and die now by the decree of God and by the word of God that has been given to us.

To become a Christian who is strong, we have to eat the word of God. This is what is supplied to us through the umbilical cord connection (Holy Spirit). A day will come when Christ will birth you and you will be shown to the world as a newborn that carries His insignia on you. The hour of His power will be upon you and all the forces of evil cannot prevail for He has chosen you. Learn to walk in that knowledge of your choosing and connection to superior things through Jesus. Eat and drink of this new security in His word.

When God called us out of this world and into His marvellous light, He severed the world connections that once held us. In one stroke of His scalpel, He circumcised the heart. The Jews never understood this and always thought it had to do with the flesh as an ordinance of God to attain righteousness. God’s intentions were not understood and so it became a law rather than a way to receive new birth. When Jesus came to tell us the true way in God, He spoke of the circumcision of the heart which was change in our hearts and minds to receive new birth. Now, after becoming Christians through new birth, there is a requirement to keep circumcising the flesh to remove all umbilical cord connections (soul ties) to this world and anything that did not release a person fully to Christ. Gal 5:24  And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. Gal 5:25If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. The ultimate form of circumcision is crucifixion. Once crucifixion takes place, you emulate the death of Christ and you become hid in Him. This is what Apostle Paul is alluding (referring) to. This hiding is like the following verses. Psa_61:3For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. Pro_18:10The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe. Psa_18:2The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. Psa_144:2My goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer; my shield, and he in whom I trust; who subdueth my people under me.

One can see from these verses that Christ is the hiding place that God uses to protect us. He has become the womb of our protection. His love is the cocoon of our development to reach new heights in new birth. No storm, no devil nothing can separate us from that; only we can by our unbelief.

Dearly beloved in Christ, come to that place of comfort in the Holy Ghost and security in Christ through His word. The word of God is the hiding place. His name is Jesus and in Him and through Him this world can no longer hold us to fear, death, destruction or any other form of evil. My prayer is; Lord help us to understand the power of Christ your Son and the passage of your goodness that empties our vessels of self dependence and brings us to oneness with you through Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Thank you for causing each one of us to receive this expansion of mind, heart and soul that we may believe in all circumstances of this natural life and be prepared to go the distance in love and power. May the offences of this life be as straw in the fire and may your love be as a strong and high tower encompassing us with the walls of security that cannot be shaken or moved. We bless you Lord and thank you for this love in Jesus. Amen.

Lots of love
