Who are you?
Who are you?
Psa_82:6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.
The words, “you are” denotes what you are in the sight of God; which in this case is, children of God. If you are born again you are not created but begotten or given birth to by God. This makes you gods. The importance of birth is obvious because who gives birth to you is critical to your identity (belonging). It is obvious that there are many beings who can give birth to us in a natural or spiritual manner. The first is God, the second is ourselves and the third is the devil. Let us examine this phenomenon more closely in the scriptures.
- Gen_5:4 And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters:
- Joh_3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
- 1Jn_3:10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
- Gen 6:4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
God created Adam & Eve, who procreated and produced children after their own image after sinning and so lost God's image in procreation. Much before Jesus came, there were angels in heaven known as the Watcher angels who loved the daughters of men. They came down and took for themselves wives procreating giants in the land. These giants became a mixture of angelic type beings with flesh. This made them very different. Then, God sent His Son Jesus, who is the only begotten of the Father. That means, no other Son or child was begotten of Him. Jesus came in the flesh as a quickened Spirit. 1Co_15:45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. The difference was in the form Jesus took as a man. He took on flesh as a vesture, not the DNA of humans. His flesh was not procreated by His mother Mary. She was a housing (womb) to nurture His birth in the womb and after He was born. His conception, however, was carried out by the Spirit of God. Luk_1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. Finally, we have the devilish birth process that is of the heart and mind of the human. The devil seeks to get children for himself from the children of men and so he goes about deceiving them to become like him in nature by the evil things he teaches them to do.
That is why Apostle Paul asks this question of us who come to Christ and who are born again. Gal 4:8 Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods. Gal_4:9 But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage? These verses explain to us that those who call themselves gods are not gods because they are not begotten of the Father, yet on the other hand, we are. We carry the DNA of Christ the moment we become born again. Therefore, we cannot afford to corrupt that DNA by mixing it with the world through lusts, sin and the Law. We are free spirits (sons and daughters of God) begotten in the image of Jesus. We must reverence our elevated status instead of becoming victims of lesser elements. We should instead rule and reign over them.
The other notable aspects of who we are is varied and many:
1. We are who God says we are
2. We are born again by the Spirit and Word of God
3. We are victors, overcomers and more than conquerors through Christ Jesus
4. We are blessed
5. We are powerful
6. We are saved, healed and delivered
7. We are seated in heavenly places with Jesus
8. We are the head and not the tail
Let us not give our God-given status as gods to someone else and become victims again. This is easily done by turning our backs on our birthright like Esau did. Heb 12:15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled; Heb 12:16 Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright. Heb 12:17 For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.
I believe that many are selling their sonship to the devil because they can no longer sustain the value of sonship that is brought about through suffering. Suffering is a word not liked by many because people have preached to them the easy gospel. The truth of the gospel is not an easy gospel but an effective gospel. The effective gospel states; we are the sons of God in a dark and evil generation and are able to live like God wants us to live; through all the trials and tribulations of life.
When God seems far away from His children, the question; “are you there God” seems to always arise in our hearts? Why would a loving God who calls Himself our Father cause us to suffer? This is the million dollar question that is not easily answered. Things look great for awhile and then they seem to hit rock bottom or run into trouble of some sort. The cries of the children to the Father often time seem to come up empty. Why?
I believe, there is a place with God where the child of God can actually walk through evil in the absolute glory of being a god (authority of God in you). By this I mean, fulfil one’s destiny as God’s children, not the devils’ child. God’s children are Godlike and are not ashamed of it. They take on the image of Christ and also the power of Christ. This makes them Christlike. Once we are born again, God finishes the final touches on us in this world so that, when we do go up, we will look like Jesus in His fullest. 1Jn_3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
The day is coming when we will not only be like Him but we will rule and reign with Him in absolute glory. For now, while we are on earth the evil forces can recognise our status more than we can because we look at ourselves as weak and easily tempted. We often choose the world over the Lord and fail by following weakness. Let us not give into the weakness of this world but accept Godliness.
God is not weakened because we are. However, He is compromised in us by the devil through sin. The devil knows he cannot do anything about God but he can do something about us. So, the devil seeks to bring us into temptation. This is how he got Eve who was made as a daughter of God in God’s own image. Gen 3:4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: Gen 3:5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
Even the devil knows that we were gods. However, God did not want us to become gods with the knowledge of good and evil because that brought death. Instead, He wanted us to be gods knowing Him as Father through Christ. This way, the true son and daughter of God could be recognised without sin. However, this did not eventuate and we all became like the devil; a sinner facing death and annihilation. However, God, in His abundant mercy, looked away from sin and gave up His only begotten Son that we might be saved. This infuriated the devil who went about seeking who he could convert to be like him. This was allowed by God because God only sought those who would be His children by choice and not be forced to be like Him.
Once human nature has been given at birth, God does not take it back. He instead seeks to educate and reveal to this nature the goodness of God and His deity as Father. The choice is ours to accept God in the face of a lot of questions about God and life. Those of us who have accepted sonship, know our authority and identity which gives us the right to be called the sons of God. Joh_1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
The manifestation of the sons of God is keenly awaited upon by the earth and by all the creation of God. They want to see what we will look like and how we will govern? These are questions still to be answered. However, the preparation of the sons and daughters of God is upon earth. It is up to us. 2Co 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, 2Co 6:18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. We need to come to that place of acceptance of our status and go forth into this world displaying Godliness in the image of our Father God through Jesus and by the Holy Spirit.
Lots of love
